Building a Clean Energy Movement we can be proud of...

Sure, there are many extensions of the "Clean Energy Movement" but so much of it is mostly all talk and not much action. Maybe you've bought a hybrid or an EV, maybe you've installed solar, maybe you've switched to LED light bulbs. Maybe you've sworn off buying stuff new and only do recycled crap. Maybe you've gone vegan. Those are all nice but they're small potatoes! There's only a handful of things that really make a difference for this Movement, and most people are not willing to swallow the pill that moves the needle.

Really there are only two things: Political change and financial change. Let's first talk about financial change since as a POLITICAL ACTION COMMITTEE political change is our main focus. Financial change is well, in a word, hard. In the U.S. and to varying degrees around the world, pretty much 100% of all traditional retirement plans [401(k), IRA, etc] have outsized exposure to fossil fuels. From oil and shipping companies, refineries and distributors, retailers, and almost EVERY product that is made or wrapped in plastic, we all have such a financial connection to crude that the S&P500 should just be called the Petroleum75. The oil and gas market annually is the linchpin to $6.5 trillion globally higher than all but a few other industries (financial services was a staggering $34 trillion in 2024). So, oil and gas is not going down without a serious fight, and neither are all the people whose retirements are tied to high-value stock market investments. Nor are the millions of people around the world who work in the industry or own a business that is part of the it. To drive that point home - in the U.S. there are over 100,000 gasoline stations and most are small businesses owned by individuals operating as franchises.

So, with little chance of changing the financial future tied to the oil and gas industry, we must look at strengthening political change goals in hopes that government will protect sustainable energy markets while it grows.

The only thing harder to change than people's financial positions is the people themselves. – Anonymous

We have an uphill battle, but change can happen. We are not too late to right the ship.
